Syngoniums

Difficulty: Easy

Pet Friendly: No

Native to Central America and South America, Syngoniums grow naturally on the rainforest floor, often finding a tree or rock to grow on the side of.

This aroid requires bright indirect sunlight, high humidity, and good drainage to thrive. Humidity levels between 50-70% is best. Containers with drainage holes and well-draining tropical houseplant soil will help prevent root rot. If possible, use a mix with 25% orchid bark, 25% perlite, 25% generic tropical houseplant soil, 12.5% coco coir or coconut fiber, and 12.5% worm castings. Wait for the top two inches of the soil to dry out before watering again. If you cannot provide your Syngonium with this mixture, I have found that regular tropical houseplant soil does well for some time, but I would recommend switching the potting mixture eventually. Even adding perlite and orchid bark to your mixture will improve your plant's growth. To help your regular tropical houseplant soil mix work for your Syngonium, add some slightly acidic fertilizers. A sprinkle of coffee grounds has helped me in the past.
