Hoyas

Difficulty: Easy

Pet Friendly: Yes, but only in small amounts

Native to Southeast Asia, the Hoya Heuschkeliana is a type of succulent that grows naturally on trees or rocks.

Hoyas require bright indirect sunlight, moderate to high humidity, and good drainage to thrive. 50-60% humidity will be best for these plants. Containers with drainage holes and well-draining cactus and succulent soil will help prevent root rot. If possible, use a mix with 64% fernwood, 16% perlite, 16% monto clay, and 4% charcoal. Wait for about half of the soil to dry out before watering again. If you cannot provide your Hoya with this mixture, I have found that regular succulent and cactus soil does well for some time, but I would recommend switching the potting mixture eventually. To help your regular cactus soil mix work for your Hoya, add some more nutrients. A sprinkle of worm castings or compost can help.
