Monsteras

Difficulty: Easy

Pet Friendly: No

Native to Central and South America, Monsteras grow naturally on the rainforest floor, often finding a tree or rock to grow on the side of it.

This tropical plant requires bright indirect sunlight and good drainage to thrive. Containers with drainage holes and well-draining tropical houseplant soil will help prevent root rot. If possible, use a mix with 27% pumice, 27% orchid bark, 27% coco coir, 9.5% compost or worm castings, and 9.5% charcoal. Wait for the top two inches of the soil to dry out before watering again. If you cannot provide your Monstera with this mixture, I have found that regular tropical houseplant soil works well. To help your regular tropical houseplant soil mix boost growth for your Monstera, add some slightly acidic fertilizers. A sprinkle of coffee grounds has helped me in the past.
