Anthuriums

Difficulty: Easy

Pet Friendly: No

Native to Central and South America, Anthuriums grow naturally on the rainforest floor, often finding a tree or rock to grow on the side of.

This tropical plant requires bright indirect sunlight, high humidity, and good drainage to thrive. Humidity levels between 70-80% are best. Containers with drainage holes and well-draining soil will help prevent root rot. If possible, use a mix with 40% peat moss, 40% generic orchid soil, and 20% perlite. Wait for the top two inches of the soil to dry out before watering again. If you cannot provide your Anthurium with this mixture, I have found that a 50-50 mix of orchid soil and tropical houseplant soil works well. To help your soil mix boost growth for your Anthurium, add some slightly acidic fertilizers. A sprinkle of coffee grounds has helped me in the past.
